Green Amethyst is an enhanced gemstone. The presence of green amethyst in nature is very rare, but the natural process by which it forms can be simulated.
 
In nature, all forms of Amethyst start as clear Quartz with impurities of iron. Through long and gradual exposure to natural radiation, the iron impurities cause the Quartz to appear purple (Amethyst). Subsequent exposure to heat through volcanic activity further changes the oxidation state of the iron impurities, usually resulting in a colour change to either brown or yellow (giving rise to citrine). But in rare cases where the iron impurities are specifically in the form of ferrous iron (Fe2+), the colour will change from purple to green.
